Is there any way I can connect an XBox One controller to play a game? Controller in using a micro-usb cable and it downloads the drivers.
PSA: Using 3rd party Xbox 360 Controllers on Mac OS
If you are using controllers like a Rock Candy Xbox 360 controller on Mac, make sure you use the 360Controller driver on github and... this is the most important part... ensure that the 'Pretend to be an Xbox 360 Controller' option in the Advanced tab is checked ON. You might have to check the 'Enable Driver' box in the same tab as well but I'm too scared to mess with it any more.
I can't tell you how long this has plagued me. Just a helpful message to anyone else who may be developing on their Macs and having issues with 3rd party xbox 360 controllers.
EDIT: It seems I also need to uncheck and recheck the 'Pretend to be an Xbox 360 Controller' option every time I run the game. Not sure what that's about but I'm sick of trying to understand and just want to get back to developing.
Trying to use any controllers on a macbook is extremely frustrating. Anyone have any good solutions?
So Ive been trying to use my controllers with lots of games over the past year, and it is sooo frustrating. Let me take my most recent example, trying to play Mark of the Ninja with either Xbox One or DS4 controller. Wired with micro-usb to usb-c or wirelessly.
By default, trying to use the Xbox controller means that A is coded as UP, and B as down. With the DS4, the R1 button triggers BOTH the grappeling hook, and opening the menu.
Then trying to use the Xbox360 gamepad github thingie, and then it wont recognize the Xbox One controller since 'it is already supported by mac'.
Then its the case of they working differently if they are connected by cable or not. Or being recognized at all! And I can never remap any buttons so things make more sense, the sensitivity is NUTS so that trying to select a menu option is a total slot game. The selection just keeps jumping 3-7 menu headings every time I hit UP, so I never know which setting I am going to get.
And sometimes the controllers seem like they are permanently stuck on going LEFT, so I have to forcefully hold it RIGHT just to stand still.

A lot of the times most buttons dont even do anything, and to top it all off: EVERYTHING changes when you involve Steam and their drivers in Big Picture Mode. Now I cant even remember in what game what controller worked with what setup!
This is one area where I truly miss Windows. Ive been gaming on Windows with controllers for years and I never had this much issues. And when I had, the fix was usually pretty straight forward and permanent.
